چکیده

Hysteresis of a piezoelectric actuator is ratedependent. Most hysteresis models are based on elementary rate-independent operators and are not suitable for modeling actuator behavior across a wide frequency band. This work proposes a rate-dependent modified PrandtlIshlinskii (PI) operator to account for the hysteresis of a piezoelectric actuator at varying frequency. We have shown experimentally that the relationship between the slope of the hysteretic loading curve and the rate of control input can be modeled by a linear function. The proposed rate-dependent hysteresis model is implemented for open-loop control of a piezoelectric actuator. In experiments tracking multifrequency nonstationary motion profiles, it consistently outperforms its rate-independent counterpart by a factor of two in maximum error and a factor of three in rms error.

Modeling and Identification of the Rate-Dependent Hysteresis of Piezoelectric Actuator Using a Modified Prandtl-Ishlinskii Model

Piezoelectric actuator (PEA) is an ideal microscale and nanoscale actuator because of its ultra-precision positioning resolution. However, the inherent hysteretic nonlinearity significantly degrades the PEA’s accuracy. The measured hysteresis of PEA exhibits strong rate-dependence and saturation phenomena, increasing the difficulty in the hysteresis modeling and identification. In this paper, a...

Rate-dependent inverse hysteresis feedforward controller for microsurgical tool

This paper presents the development and initial results of a controller based on a novel rate-dependent hysteresis model. The controller has been developed for “Micron,” a microsurgical instrument designed to sense and actively cancel tremor and other undesired motion during vitreoretinal intervention. To accomplish this, Micron uses a three-degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator with piezoelec...

Characterization and modeling of the temperature effect on the piezoelectric tube actuator

This paper deals with the characterization and the modeling of the temperature effect on the piezoelectric tube actuator. Besides the sensitivity to the variation of the temperature, this actuator is characterized by the hysteresis and the creep non-linearities, the badly-damped vibration and the cross-couplings between its three axis. First, the characterization results of the sensitivity of t...

Adaptive Control Design for Hysteresis Compensation within Piezoelectric Actuators

Hysteresis nonlinearity of piezoelectric actuator deteriorates its control performance. Unlike traditional model-based control scheme, this paper employs a novel adaptive control algorithm without modeling of hysteresis to achieve a precise tracking control. The piezoelectric actuator system in question consists of models in the form of a linear time-invariant dynamic system in series with a di...

Tracking Control of Hysteretic Piezoelectric Actuator using Adaptive Rate-Dependent Controller.

With the increasing popularity of actuators involving smart materials like piezoelectric, control of such materials becomes important. The existence of the inherent hysteretic behavior hinders the tracking accuracy of the actuators. To make matters worse, the hysteretic behavior changes with rate. One of the suggested ways is to have a feedforward controller to linearize the relationship betwee...
